Langley Mustangs Track and Field Training Groups

We offer optimum competitive opportunities for ALL athletes regardless of age and ability. Langley Mustangs is both a High Performance and recreational club ranging in ages from elementary school athletes to Masters (35+ years)

Children can come out to the track, have fun running or jumping, meeting new friends, joining in the fun and wonderful, healthy and character building world of track and field! Come and join us and give your children one of the most fun summers they will ever have!

Post-Secondary Group

Our Post-Secondary Group is designed for both post-secondary athletes training year round and those returning from their university season in Canada or the US. This group will focus on the outdoor preparing athletes to excel at the national and international level.

The Post-Secondary Group begins either in September, for year-round athletes, or athletes upon the completion of their CIS, NAIA or NCAA commitments. The preparation will include, where appropriate, weight training, core strength and technical coaching. The group will train until the end of the competition season.

Gold Group

Our  Gold Level group is designed for athletes aged 15 - 21. This group, as a focus,  will prepare athletes to excel at the provincial and national level. The Gold  Level begins in mid-September with two weeks of Hill Camp; weight training, core  strength and pool training is then added. By mid-October athletes will be  training five days per week, continuing through the end of the competing season  in late July.

Silver Group

Our  Silver Level group is designed for athletes aged 13 - 17. Together they will  form a training group whose focus will be to prepare for High School, Provincial  and National Championships. Silver Level athletes are expected to train 3-4  times a week beginning in November, moving to 4-5 times a week in January.  Practices will focus on mobility and movement patterns, core strength  development and aerobic endurance. 

Middle Distance Group

The Langley Mustangs Middle Distance Training group is designed for high school athletes aged
13-17 (age as of December 31, 2012). Together, they will form a training group who’s focus, will
be to prepare for High School , Provincial and National championships. As part of this training
group athletes will follow a seasonal program that is specific for them; yet may cross-over,
particularly in the track season, and incorporate some of the regular track schedule.

Bronze Group

The Bronze Group is a newly created training program for 14 & 15 year olds who want to pursue
track at the high school level in a developmental setting. This will be well suited to those returning club athletes moving up from the Junior Development program who want to further develop their skills before considering a move into the Silver (Midget November-July) or Gold (year round) programs. It is also a group for athletes new to track and fields who want to explore their potential in athletics.

The 2013 Bronze Group will run from February 18 at 5:30 pm - 7:00 pm every Tuesday & Thursday, then will change to 5:00 pm - 7:00 pm starting in March through to our meet in June.

JD Level (Red Group and Green Group)

Our  JD athletes (ages 9 - 13) train in two different groups. The Red Level group is designed for those athletes who want to compete on a regular basis with other clubs in the lower mainland. The Green Level Group is primarily a non-competitive program for those athletes that would like to try track and field for the first time. Both groups practice twice a week from mid-March to the end of June.

2013: The first practice of the year for the Green and Red Groups is Tuesday, March 5,
                 5:00 pm to 6:00 pm.

Please note practices in March will only be from 5pm to 6pm.
Practices will go from 5:00 pm to 7:00  pm as of April 2.

Track Rascal Training Group

Ages 6 - 9 
The track rascal program is a RunJumpThrow (RJT) non-competitive program for those athletes that 
would like to try track and field for the first time and want a fun recreational experience. Developed by Athletics Canada, RJT is the grassroots development program for our sport. This FUNdamentals program teaches the skills of running, jumping and throwing and the technical skill 
progressions for track and field events. It is designed for boys and girls ages 6-9, has progressions for older athletes, and can be adapted for special needs.
Practices run twice a week from mid-April to mid-June.

Langley Mustangs Home Venue

The Langley Mustangs practice at McLeod Athletic Park.
It is located at 216th Street and 56 Avenue in Langley.
