Long time Langley Mustangs track & field standout Tanika Dolfo has accepted an athletic scholarship from NCAA Division II powerhouse, Azusa Pacific University in Los Angeles California.
Tanika, a Grade 12 student at Langley Fundamental High school, has had an outstanding high school and club career medaling multiple times at the BC High School Championships and the Canadian National Youth Track and Field Championships in the Hammer Throw.
Tanika ended the 2016 track season as Canada's #2 ranked youth Hammer Thrower (4kg) with a toss of 51.30m. That mark was the sixth best in North America amongst Grade 11’s throwers.
Tanika will be coached by former 1992 US Olympian, Mike Barnett. Coach Barnett has coached multiple NCAA medalists as well as being the throws coach 2008 Beijing Gold Medalist Decathlete Bryan Clay.
When asked why he had signed Tanika, Coach Barnett stated, “we look for Student Athletes who posses more than an athletic ability, this is why we are excited to also have someone of her character, work ethic and leadership ability. I can't wait to watch her compete in a Cougar Uniform".
