Athletics Canada unveiled the team that will compete at the 2015 IAAF World Youth Championships in Cali, Colombia, July 15 to 19.
Langley Mustangs Dean Ellenwood will represent Canada in the 800 meters. Ellenwood, a grade 11 student at Langley Secondary School, enters the meet as the #2 ranked Canadian with a personal best of 1:51.78. According to his coach Dwayne Lotnick, "The focus and commitment Dean has shown over the last couple of years has been phenomenal. It has paid off with a selection to represent Canada at a world championship event. It is going to be exciting to watch Dean each step of the way." Heats are scheduled for July 15th at 5:50pm with semi-finals to go July 16th at 4:35pm. Finals are scheduled July 18th at 6pm.
Langley Mustangs Megan Champoux will be racing in the girls 400m hurdles. Champoux, a grade 10 student at Langley Fundamental High School recently came off an impressive first place finish in the BC High School Championships. Her success was accented as it was the first year at competing the 400m hurdles. According to her coach, Jarid Vaughn, "Megan is one of the most dedicated athletes and has a real passion for competition. I'm looking forward to her accelerating even more as her career progresses".
Champoux's qualifying round will take place July 15th at 3:50pm with semi-finals scheduled for July 16th at 11:30am. Finals will go on July 18th at 4:55pm.
