"He is a fluid runner and is looking forward to building his strength and endurance to reach the next level. He will follow a great tradition of middle distance runners at SFU and I am confident he will emerge as one of the best ever.
"I felt like SFU gives me the best chance to have success academically and athletically," said Schmidt, who is planning to pursue a degree in business. "Under Brit's leadership and guidance, I am sure that I will be able to reach my full potential as both a student as well as an athlete."
