Athletics Canada Identifies 2012 Annual Awards Finalists
OTTAWA - Athletics Canada named today the finalists for its 2012 annual awards in each of its twelve awards categories. The winners will be unveiled next Wednesday December 19, and will be honoured during the 2013 Canadian Championships in Moncton, N.B. The finalists and winners are chosen by Athletics Canada's Awards Committee from the nominee pool as put forward by its membership.

Mustangs Receive BC Athletics Awards
Langley Mustangs athletes were well represented at the 2012 BC Athletics Awards Banquet, Saturday, December 1, 2012 at the Hilton Hotel in Richmond.
In the 15 year old Midget category, Robyn Buckingham (High Jump, Pentathlon), Teagan Rasche (Hammer, Javelin, Racewalk), Brittni Wolczyk (Discus, Javelin), Eric Chatten (High Jump), Nickolas Colyn (Steeplechase, 2000m) were all recognized for outstanding performances through the track season.
Nickolas Colyn was also awarded the Top Midget (15 year old) Male Cross Country Athlete.
Georgia Ellenwood was named the Top Youth (16-17 year old) Female Track and Field Athlete while Braedon Dolfo was named the Province's Top Disabled Track and Field Athlete.

Mustangs Excel at 2012 London Paralympics

Before sell-out crowds of 80,000 spectators Braedon Dolfo and Dustin Walsh (with guide runner Dylan Willimason) put in fantastic performances at London’s Olympic Stadium.
Posting a new national record and a seasonal best, and with the disappointment of a disqualification, both athletes proudly represented Canada. Congratulations to them both for their accomplishments on the world’s largest stage. Braedon (T13) – 100m – 11.27 – 7th – Set new Canadian Record in heat with a time of 11.26 200m – 23.25 – 12th Dustin (T11) – 400m – Crossed the line second in his heat, but was disqualified for a lane violation. Dolfo Sets New Canadian Record at London Paralympics

Braedon Dolfo started his Paralympics off with a bang when he took to the track for the 100m heats (T13). He clocked a time of 11.26 seconds, breaking his own previously-held Canadian record of 11.33. The time was also fast enough to earn him a spot in the 100m finals the next day.
In the 100m finals Braedon placed 7th with a time of 11.27, running only two lanes from Jason Smyth who set a new world record with a time of 10.46.
Braedon now has a few days to rest and prepare for his 4 x 100m heat, along with Mustangs team mage Dustin Walsh.

Mustangs Nominated to 2012 London Paralympic Games

Athletics Canada announced today the athletes that have been put forth to the Canadian Paralympic Committee (CPC) and Canadian Olympic Committee (COC) for nomination to the 2012 Paralympic Games team and 2012 Olympic Games team.
The Langley Mustangs congratulate the following athletes on their achievement and their nomination:

Dolfo sets 2 New Canadian Records
In his final tune up before the Paralympics Games in London, Braedon Dolfo set two new Canadian records (T13).
Dolfo lowered his own record in the 100meters to 11.33 bettering the mark he set November 2011 at the Para-Pan American Games in Mexico. An hour after setting the new 100 meter mark, Dolfo ran 23.00 in the 200 meters knocking off .15 seconds his existing record set in June at the Harry Jerome.

Rob Pike – Pole Vault, Speed and Power Coach - Joins Langley Mustangs

Rob Pike joins the Mustangs coaching staff after finishing a contract with the Mexican Track and Field Association as their lead Pole Vault Coach. Rob, himself, was a world class vaulter (5.50 PB) competing for Canada at World Championships, Commonwealth Games, Francophone and Pan-Am Games (1995-2002).
Rob has coached since 1996 coaching and developing athletes from the beginner, to youth to Olympic Level. He has coached athletes in the jumps, hurdles, throws, and jumps at the Capital City and Leduc Track Clubs as well as the University of Alberta. Rob also currently serves as the Assistant Coach at Trinity Western University.

Relay Team Wins Big at Hersheys

The Langley Mustangs 13 year-old girls 4 x 100m relay team represented Region 3 at the Hershey National meet in Hershey, Pennsylvania. To qualify for the meet the team posted the fastest time for their region which consists of BC, AB, NWT, Alaska, Washington, Oregon, Idaho and Montana.
The girls finished 7th overall with a time of 54.92. A highlight of the weekend was an opportunity to meet 9 time gold medalist Carl Lewis.

Mustangs off to Youth National Championships
Congratulations to Langley Mustang athletes- Brittni Wolczyk, Nic Colyn, Teagan Rasche, Robyn Buckingham, Georgia Ellenwood, Adam Osborne- who have been selected to the BC Team to compete in the 2012 Legion Canadian Youth Track and Field Championships.

Ellenwood sets new club record as she represents Canada at World Junior Championships
Congratulations to Georgia Ellenwood,16, who finished 18th in the Heptathlon at the U20 World Junior Track and Field Championships with a new club record of 5262 points.
The IAAF World Junior Championships in Barcelona run July 10-15th, 2012. No fewer than 180 countries have confirmed their participation in these Championships. A total of 1,742 athletes are entered (964 men and 778 women) including Langley Mustang's Georgia Ellenwood.

Perkins wins Silver for Canada

Congratulations to Tiffany Perkins who won the silver medal in javelin at the North American, Central American, Caribbean (NACLA) U23 championships in Mexico. She threw a new Personal Best and new club record of 56.20m.

New Canadian Record at the Harry Jerome Meet

Braedon Dolfo led a series of great performances by Langley Mustangs athletes at the Harry Jerome Meet Sunday, June 10th, held at Swangard Stadium in Burnaby, BC. Dolfo set a new Canadian record winning the Paralympic 200 meters with a time of 23.15 seconds. He easily outdistanced Markeith Price of the USA who finished at 23.64 seconds. Dolfo, a visually impaired athlete, broke the previous Canadian 200 meter record (T13) of 23.48 seconds that had stood for 22 years.
Also at the Harry Jerome Meet, Kyle Nielsen finished third in the Men's Javelin with a throw of 74.20 meters. Tiffany Perkins finished third in the Women's Javelin with a throw of 52.02 meters. Mustangs Excel at BC Heptathlon Championships
Georgia Ellenwood’s determined drive to become the most successful multi-event track and field athlete in B.C. girls high school history continued with her winning her third straight BC High School Heptathlon Championships. Ellenwood won six of the seven events to take the title with a total of 4955 points. Mustangs Shelby Smithson came fourth while Danica Matson finished sixth. Another Mustangs Record Falls

Langley Mustang's Kyle Nielsen continues his chase towards the Olympic Standard in Men's Javelin (B Standard 79.50, A Standard 82.00).
Kyle placed second in the Men's Javelin at the prestigious 2012 Tucson Elite Classic with a throw of 77.14. Nielsen's throw is the second longest in Canada this year.
It is also a Mustangs club record.

Perkins Qualifies to Represent Canada

Congratulations to Tiffany Perkins who threw 52.80m in the Javelin. With that result, she made standard to represent Canada at the 2012 NACAC U-23 Championships (North America, Caribbean, Central American Championships) July 6 - 8, 2012 in Guanajuato, Mexico.
Tiffany's throw was also a Langley mustangs all-time club record.

Mustangs Shine at Eagle Classic

At the Eagle Classic meet in Maple Ridge, March 12, 2012, Caroline Gillespie was awarded the Debbie Brill female top jumper award with a High Jump of 1.40. She also earned a third place in the 100M with a PB of 13.62.
The Cindy Foley Mile award for top female youth miler went to 13 year old Brook Hoolsema of the Langley Mustangs with a time of 5:31.08.

Ellenwood Qualifies for World Junior Championships

Congratulations to Georgia Ellenwood who scored 5198 points in the Heptathlon in a meet in Spokane, Washington.
Her score exceded Athletics Canada's qualification standard for the World Junior Championships scheduled for Barcelona, Spain July 10–15.
Ellenwood's result also broke the long held club record of Kelly Ann Kempf set in 1988. Ellenwood's marks were 15.18 (100m hurdles), 1.65 (High Jump) 10.35 (Shot Put), 25.36 (200m), 5.60 (Long Jump), 37.97 (Javelin), 2:20.07 (800m).

London Disability Athletics Challenge

Canada's Paralympic 4 X 100 relay team (visually impaired) finished second, May 8th, at the London 2012 Paralympic Test Event.
The team, which includes Langley Mustangs Dustin Walsh and Braedon Dolfo, set a PB of 45.13 improving on their World Championship time of 46.44.

Club Records set by Pole Vaulters
Congratulations to Jessica Tan who set the all-time club record in Pole Vault with a Jump of 2.90 at the Fraser Valley Championships.
Congratulations also to Lauryn Cheung (13) who set a new age group club record at the 2012 Golden Ears track meet in Maple Ridge. Lauryn jumped 2.30 in Pole Vault.

Club Records Set
Congratulations to Nickolas Colyn (15) who set two new age group club record at the 2012 Fraser Valley High School Invitational Track Meet. He ran the 3000m in 9:25.05 and the 1500m 4:18.22
Nickolas also set the age group club record at the Oceans Athletics Meet in the 1500m Steeplechase with a time of 4:34.60.

Grocery Grab Winner

The Grocery Grab contest winner, Lee Marshall, sped down the aisles of the Walnut Grove IGA store to fill his cart with more than $630.00 worth of groceries. His family will be eating well!

Mustangs JD Groups Off to a Strong Start
The Langley Mustangs JD Program started off the competitive season in fine form with a team of 53 athletes coming home with a total of 105 ribbons.
Natalia Monro led the way with 5 first place finishes in the very competitive 11 year old girls age group while first year athlete Nathan King turned in a notable performance to take the 300m in the 13 year olds boys division. By the end of the two-day meet there were an impressive 37 new Mustangs Top 10 performances recorded. Check out our results link to view the many amazing performances. Congratulations Mustangs!

Mustangs on Bigger Stage
Georgia Ellenwood, Robbie Gallaugher, Carolyn Sunderland and coach Kim Chapdelaine have just returned from an excellent week of training at the Athletics Canada training camp in Tucson Arizona. It was an excellent opportunity to train with current and future National Team members.
The club would also like to welcome Dustin Walsh as a member of the Mustangs. Dustin is a two time Paralympian competing for Canada at the 2004, 2008 Paralympic Games. Walsh is also the Canadian record holder in the 400m (blind) category with a time of 53.05. Dustin is also a member of Canada's visually impaired 4 X 100 team along with teammate Braedon Dolfo.
Dolfo and Walsh are currently in London, England preparing to compete in the Paralympic Test event May 8th.

Spartans sign London-bound Paralympian

LANGLEY, British Columbia - The Trinity Western track and field team has added a world-class Paralympic sprinter and long jumper to its team as Spartans coach Laurier Primeau announced the signing of Canadian record-holder Braedon Dolfo (Langley, B.C.) Outdoor Season Opener
The weekend of April 7th marked the opening for the outdoor track and field season. The Mustangs competed under clear skies at the U.B.C Open in Vancouver.
Our best results came from the Mustang jumpers. Robbie Gallaugher jumped 7.41 metres to win the long jump. He is still shy of the 8.00 metre standard that would qualify him for the 2012 Olympics. On the women's side Carolyn Sutherland placed second in long jump with a distance of 5.67. In women's high jump young Hannah Rolfe had the highest jump at 1.60 metres. The club will be competing next weekend at the S.F.U. Emilie Mondor Invitational meet on April 14th in Burnaby.
