Overview of Training Group
It is well recognized that athletes in the midget age group and up, need to receive more intense technical coaching, as well as aerobic and strength training, with the end goal of achieving excellence in their chosen events. The Athletic Development Model identifies “training how to train” and “training how to compete” as the key elements to be built upon in this age group as well as learning to set goals and the training disciplines necessary to reach those goals. Note: Midget refers to ages 14-15 by end of 2016
The High School Group season runs October to mid-August. The High School Group athletes will be expected to train 3-5 days a week depending on which phase of training the athlete is in. Initially, training in the fall will be at McLeod Athletic Park 3 days a week plus a gym workout. Specific preparation for competition will begin early in the New Year. During this time athletes may compete in 1 or 2 indoor meets in Washington or Richmond. These competitions will be considered for practice and experience purposes only. In the early spring the coaches will be focused on very specific and individual workouts and getting early competition experience.
High School Group Qualifications
To qualify for this level, athletes will need agreement from Dwayne Lotnick, Dave Hetherington or Tom Nielsen. It is a privilege to be a part of this team. Therefore, as a member of this team you will abide by the certain rules and regulations this will help us build a better team together.
