Langley Mustangs Dominate in Cross Country in 2008
The Langley Mustangs proved track meet after track meet that they were a force to be reckoned with in the Lower Mainland Track and Field competitions throughout the spring and summer of 2008. Now the fall is here and several Mustangs have continued on into Cross Country competitions – both in elementary school and in the Lower Mainland Junior Development Series where athletes had to complete three of five races for points towards the Championship. Most of the races were between 2 and 2.2 km and often the athletes were completing these races in well under seven minutes, and over rough terrain.
Nicole Chevrier (pictured at right) finished with a 2nd and two 3rd place finishes and placed 4th overall in the Lower Mainland Championships for 11 year old girls.
She also finished 1st overall in the Langley Elementary School Championship and won the Mustang’s Club “Top Elementary Cross Country Female” award for 2008.
Joel Harrison (pictured left in red) finished 1st in all 5 races in the Lower Mainland Championships and was 1st overall for 9 year old boys. He also placed 1st in the Langley Elementary School Championship.
Paul Buckingham (picture at left in red with white t-shirt), also 9, finished 2nd, 5th and 6th and was 5th overall in the Lower Mainland Championships and 2nd in the Langley school championship running against his cousin Joel Harrison.
Jordan Fletcher finished 1st in 3 races and 1st overall in the Lower Mainland Championship and Ethan Carlson finished 8th overall for 10 year olds. Jordan had the fastest overall time for all Mustangs for 2 km at 6:17.
Elliot Carlson, Ethan’s brother, finished 5th overall in the Championships for 12 year old boys.
Other older Mustangs athletes are competing in High School and BC Championship cross country races and those results will be out soon.
