All-American Kyle Nielsen Joins Mustangs
NCAA three time All American Kyle
Nielsen will be training full time with the Langley Mustangs
starting in the new year. The track and field club is attracting
elite athletes to the high performance throws program headed by
coach Tom Nielsen (Kyle's dad).
Kyle captured
the silver medal in javelin at the 2011 Canadian track and field
championships, and threw a personal best of 77.24 metres for a
new University of Washington record. Competing for Canada
internationally this year, Kyle finished 10th at the World
University Games in Shenzhen, China. He is now 22 and has
finished his eligibility at the University of Washington and is
now focused on achieving the standard of 82 metres to qualify to
throw for Canada at the 2012 or 2016 Olympic Games. Kyle has
thrown for Canada at the Francophone Games and at the Pan-Am
Junior World Championships. He was the Canadian Champion in
javelin in 2009 and the Canadian Junior Champion in javelin and
BC High School Champion in javelin and decathlon in 2007.
20 year old
Tiffany Perkins is now also a member of the Mustangs throws
group. Tiffany is well known in the track and field community,
having placed 11th in the javelin competing for Canada at the
World Junior Championships in Moncton in 2010. The elite throws
groups will thrive with the addition of new shot put facilities,
and renovations to the javelin, discus and hammer throw areas
scheduled for MacLeod Athletic Park to be completed in time for
the Legion Canadian Youth Track and Field Championships being
hosted by Langley in 2013 and 2014.
Olympic Hopefuls
 The
Langley Mustang duo of Carolyn Sutherland and Georgia Ellenwood
are reaping the rewards of a successful 2011 track and field
season. On November 14th, these Canadian athletes were
recognized for making the qualifying standard for the Olympic
Development Program (O.D.P). Administered by Sports Canada, the
program provides guidance, structure and financial resources to
athletes. Sutherland made the 5.79 metre standard in long jump
with a personal best of 5.81 metres and Ellenwood easily made
the 4666 point standard in the heptathlon with her Canadian
youth record of 5043 points. The Olympic development program
targets athletes that will be 23 - 30 years old during the 2016
and 2020 Olympics. The girls are on the right track to fulfill
their Olympic dreams.
Dolfo Wins Bronze Medal at
Para Pan-American Games

Braedon Dolfo broke his own Canadian 100m (T13) record in winning the bronze medal in
the 100 meter
final. The time of 11.34 seconds is also a London 2012
Paralympic Games "A" qualifying standard mark.
“I’m feeling pretty good, another
personal best,” said a thrilled Dolfo who recently returned to
training following hip surgery. “It feels great to be back.”
The Para Pan-American Games were held November 14th - 18th at Telmex Stadium in Guadalajara
Mexico. Canada was one of 26 countries competing, and
Braedon Dolfo was the only athlete chosen from British Columbia.
Braedon was featured in an article in the Langley Advance
newspaper. Read the article
